SPPAS
Automatic Annotation of Speech

SPPAS is a free audio annotation tool that allows you to create, visualize and search annotations for audio data. This software is issued under the terms of the GNU Public License. It is able to produce automatically speech segmentation annotations from a recorded speech sound and its transcription. Some special features are also offered for managing corpora of annotated files.

SPPAS's data files are XML-based. However SPPAS is compatible with Praat, Elan, Transcriber, and many others. SPPAS is written in Python and runs on Windows, Macintosh and Unix platforms.

  1. Make sure you have closely follow the installation guide and documentation.
  2. Many problems can be solved by updating your version.
  3. Have a look on the SPPAS User's group.
  4. If none of the above helps, you may send mail to the author. Indicate your operating system and versions, send the log file, and send a sample of the data on which a problem occurs.

SPPAS is developped and maintained by Brigitte Bigi (PhD), researcher at CNRS, in Laboratoire Parole et Langage, Aix-en-Provence, France.
